SHANNEX TAKES iBOS® ACROSS ATLANTIC CANADA AND ONTARIO

SHANNEX LEVERAGES iBOS® AI TO REDUCE GHG ACROSS 31 COMMUNITIES IN ATLANTIC CANADA AND ONTARIO

In a world focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility, clients, employees and increasingly, regulators are all demanding better insights into organizations’ Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. Shannex, a leading seniors' living organization in Canada, is rising to the challenge by harnessing innovative technology to meet its greenhouse gas emissions targets.

Shannex has long been committed to providing exceptional care and accommodation for seniors while also prioritizing environmental stewardship. As part of this commitment, the organization has adopted iBOS®, an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology designed to optimize HVAC systems and reduce energy consumption in commercial and multi-residential buildings.

In 2020, Shannex installed iBOS® in seven buildings across Nova Scotia, including the Parkland at the Gardens and saw impressive results in the reduction of total building energy consumption. Parkland at the Gardens alone, saved 899 Gigajoules in natural gas consumption and 52.49MWh in electricity while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment of 21-24 degree Celsius for its clients. Shannex is now taking bold steps towards sustainability by expanding the use of iBOS® technology across its communities in Ontario and Atlantic Canada and extending this initiative to 24 more buildings.

One of the key benefits of iBOS® is its ability to adapt to changing conditions in real-time, continuously optimizing HVAC operations to maintain comfort levels for residents while minimizing energy usage. This dynamic approach allows Shannex to achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions without compromising on comfort or quality of care.

The success of iBOS® partnership with Shannex's underscores the potential for technology to drive meaningful change in the fight against climate change. In 2023, Shannex received a certificate of registration for ISO 50001, making it the first seniors’ living organization in the country to receive this level of certification. While ISO 500001 certification will result in continual energy efficiency, reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and the ability to compare themselves to national benchmarks, it is also part of the organization’s ongoing prioritization of sustainability in existing operations and new developments.

As organizations across industries increasingly recognize the importance of sustainability, solutions like iBOS® offer a pathway to achieving ambitious emissions reduction targets.

Looking ahead, Shannex remains committed to leveraging technology and innovation to further reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainability across its operations. By continuing to prioritize initiatives like iBOS®, Shannex is not only enhancing the quality of life for its residents but also contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future for generations to come.
